The Catholic Church got away with these horrors, because it was as though, it was a conjoined twin with the Irish government. The government and Vatican ruled Irish people with an iron fist. One only has to read about why Ireland's famous writers had to leave Erin's shores, and they'll find out how grossly stifled and censored they were. Unwanted and unloved children incarcerated into Irish Dickensian industrial "schools" for most of their childhoods.
