Just Six Numbers Martin Rees.

This is very much a book on cosmology, the formation of the universe. You are dropped into the current standard model of cosmology, learning what the experts know, but without needing any prior knowledge or seeing any equations. Everything is clearly explained, and some historical background is given where it is useful or entertaining. Each of the numbers is described fully, and the implications if it had a different value make surprising reading. It would seem that in order for you and me to exist, so must the rest of the universe as it is today. If life is to appear on Earth, other planets, stars, galaxies and more, must also be present.
Just six numbers, however, is an understatement. The story describes these six numbers thoroughly, but to do so, it is necessary to introduce many more numbers. In particular, we are asked to imagine zooming in and out by factors of ten, to get an idea of the scale of the universe we inhabit. Different values of the numbers are suggested, and then eliminated as impossible or unlikely from the evidence around us. In the first half of the book, there would seem to be a number in nearly every sentence, though this drops off in later chapters. Experts may find this explaining of the scale of things tedious, but for the rest of us it is useful to understand the overwhelmingly large and small numbers that let us exist.
So what are the six numbers?

One is the number of dimensions we live in: three.

The rest are, at least at first sight, more obscure.

 For the record, they are N, the ratio of the strength of gravity to that of electromagnetism; $\epsilon $(epsilon), the ratio of mass lost to energy when hydrogen is fused to form helium;
 $\Omega $ (Omega), describing the amount of dark matter;
$\lambda $ (lambda), the cosmological constant; and

Q
, related to the scale at which the universe looks smooth. Martin Rees takes 180 pages to explain them.

End Church Tax Exemption

END CHURCH TAX EXEMPTION.

YOU PAY MORE, SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO.

With the US elections fast approaching, it's a good idea to keep vigilant for any breach by religious organisations of 501(c)3 rules and restrictions. Specifically to endorse or campaign against any particular candidate violates the rules and leaves the guilty organisation openly risking their tax exempt status.

This is highlighted in the case of Branch Ministries Vs Rossotti where full page advertisements were taken to discourage the voting of Bill Clinton. The only problem with this case is how obviously unambiguous it is, leaving much still to be tested in the courts.

Ironically when claiming they had been individually prosecuted and claimed their selection was a violation of the equal protection clause of the fifth amendment, the church produced "HUNDREDS" of articles by religious organisations endorsing or campaigning against specific candidates in an attempt to show how other religious organisations had breached the rules but retained their tax exempt status.

In the USA the church is not required to file forms 990 as other 501(c)3 organisations are.  Nor are they required to make these available for inspection upon request as other 501(c)3 organisations do.

In effect the financial arrangements of the church remain completely unchecked and wide open to all manner of corruption. Churchgoers will be unaware of the percentage of donated monies used for lobbying government over helping the poor and needy.  The amounts paid out to silence victims of child abuse remain concealed, along with all their revenue and expenditure.

IRS rules prevent any organisation from engaging in actively supporting or campaigning against a particular political candidate. Failure to abide by the IRS rules can lead to the revocation of an organisation as is shown in the case  cited above.

It is estimated anything from a quarter to a half of a typical American city or town's "public" buildings are owned by the church and despite many if not most being used for business purposes and not religious matters, they still enjoy complete exemption from property taxes. The property assets of the church runs into the hundreds of millions of dollars.

For some perspective here, property taxes at the state level make up approx 65% of revenue, and at this time of austerity for every person and every service by government, it's time this unfair privileged exemption is challenged and revoked from all religion.

Keep an eye out for any clear violations of the IRS rules where it concerns the endorsement or attack of any particular candidate. Keep newspaper cuttings, bookmark pages containing evidence of breaches and the breaches will be submitted to the IRS for their consideration, and action.

CHURCH TAX EXEMPTION,  IS CHURCH SUBSIDY. A subsidy paid in part by atheists to help religion afford its contributing $390 000 000 annually to lobby government on issues such as abortion and bioethics, to name just two.

Does this please you?

Republican Sex Offenders - Antitheist Blog

The following damning  list of Republican offenders has been harvested from a site which has offered itself up for sale to any person willing to purchase it and do as they wish with.
This post is as much to ensure that in the event this should happen, the information remains collated and in one place.

It would appear that the Republicans share and have much in common with the church. Along with opposing women's rights, supporting bigoted religious views and giving their campaigns an easy ride. The sex abuse by the Catholic Church and Vatican, described by Geoffrey Robertson the Australian human rights lawyer as endemic, seems to be as endemic among prominent republican leaders. This is all the more sickening when they present themselves as the party of the righteous and the family, using religion as credibility to that which they stand for.

Tax Religion - Antitheists

Religions with 501(c)3 status are not supposed to engage in politics in anyway. They can do certain activities but specifically must not endorse any particular candidate. They can voice being anti-abortion, but not attack a candidate supporting abortion.

Religions are not required to apply for 501(c)3 status and can enjoy benefits over and beyond that of the registered 501(c)3s. This is where it gets slightly more complicated. Many churches and similar organisations recognise this and see the 501(c)3 as restrictive, with them not understanding why some religious organisations do apply.

I think it is clear why many have different departments/sub sections with differing accounting statuses.

In this video he speaks of religion being irrelevant to politics.

This is just not the case as $390 000 000 is spent annually by the religious orgs and the benefit even if restrictive in being 501(c)3 would be contributions being tax deductible.

It's going to take some digging to understand why some have part of their orgs 501(c)3 and offering their contributors tax deductible benefits and yet still having departments enjoying the tax exempt status by default and without restriction, but also without the benefit of tax deductible contributions.

It will be a scam/or loophole where they receive with the left with all deductible benefits, yet ACT as exempt and free from restriction.

___________________________________________________

The long and the short of the difference is as the church sees it:

***The First Amendment clearly places the church outside the jurisdiction of the civil government: Congress shall make NO LAW respecting an establishment of religion, nor prohibiting the free exercise thereof.’***
___________________________________________________

When a church accepts the 501c3 status, that church:

· Waives its freedom of speech
· Waives its freedom of religion
· Waives its right to influence legislators and the legislation they craft.
· Waives its constitutionally guaranteed rights.
· Is no longer free to speak to the vital issues of the day.
· It’s controlled with fear, if it doesn’t following IRS guidelines it will lose its tax-exempt status.
· Becomes a State-Church.
One need not look far to see that the church’s acceptance of the 501c3, and its significant restrictions, has had devastating consequences to not only the church, but to the entire nation.

_____________________________________________________

If a religion does breach the rules of 501(c)3
Denial does not infringe upon the free exercise of religion, as was highlighted in 1983 at the Supreme Court: Regan v. Taxation With Representation of Washington, “a legislature’s decision not to subsidize the exercise of a fundamental right does not infringe the right.”
http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/scripts/getcase.pl?court=us&vol=461&invol=540

______________________________________________________

After studying the Pew report I thought it would be easy to expose those religious organizations breaching their obligations under the rules of a 501(c)3
I was surprised to learn, where I thought a breach may have occured, the religious organization had several subsections incorporated under the one umbrella. One section registered as 501(c)3 and free to accept donations and monies whilst all tax deductible benefits are enjoyed by those donating, yet still having a subsection not requiring the submitting of accounts as exempt automatically and also free from the restrictions the 501(c)3) places upon them.  This is exploiting a loophole somewhere, and a loophole we need to get to the bottom of.
________________________________________________________

With the US religions, the loophole that needs exploring would seem to be where religious organizations and their supporters can donate and receive as a 501(c)3 and enjoy the tax deductible benefits.
Yet still act and engage politically under a different department of the religion as tax exempt by default.
It would seem through clever manipulation and accounting they are exploiting the best of both worlds and this would go a long way to explaining why church and state separation is/seems a one way street.

Paul FULL FILM - Antitheist Blog

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ:
Sorry if you're a non windows user, to watch any film on veoh you need their player which is a perfectly safe application but only compatible with the windows operating system. / OR so I thought, Apparently it's not restricted to windows users only, An Apple man has Firefox and a couple of other browsers and he had no problem with it at all. (I can't verify this)

Personally I uncheck the toolbar option and any other extras it may want to install when installing the veoh player add on.. Veoh shows five minutes before requiring their add on. When installing it, you are given the option once or twice if you would like their toolbar included, be sure to uncheck the sub options below each main no, if of course you don't want their toolbar.

Paul:
Catholic News Service says:
"The film contains an explicit rejection of Christian faith and morals, endorsement of homosexual acts, nonmarital sexual activity and petty theft, a benign view of drug use, occasional gory violence, a few uses of profanity and pervasive rough and crude language. The Catholic News Service classification is O morally offensive."

Very strong immoral atheist worldview with very strong evolutionary elements as alien character mocks people’s belief in God instead of evolution, anti-biblical and anti-Christian portrayal of characters who are portrayed as simple-minded stereotypes, and Christian character thanks alien for setting her free from belief in God, plus several homosexual jokes and references and alien character proudly says everyone on his planet is bisexual; 101 obscenities, 10 profanities and comic art drawing of alien making obscene gesture shows several times throughout the movie; strong, often comic, violence includes car crashes, alien brings a dead bird back to life only to eat it.

Cosmos Carl Sagan

Cosmos Carl Sagan

When Cosmos was first broadcast in 1980, our world--and the context of Carl Sagan's eloquent "personal journey"--was a different place. The late Dr. Sagan would be pleased to witness the cooling of the Cold War, the continued exploration of space, and ongoing efforts to curb our destructive dependence on fossil fuels. For Sagan's series is far more than a guided tour through "billions and billions" of stars and galaxies. It remains a profound plea for the unity of humankind, for the recognition that "we are a way for the universe to know itself," with an obligation to know our origin, our place in the universe, and our future potential.
In the course of 13 fascinating hours, Cosmos spans its own galaxy of topics to serve Sagan's theme, each segment deepening our understanding of how we got from there (simple microbes in the primordial mud) to here (space-faring civilization in the 21st century). In his "ship of the imagination," Sagan guides us to the farthest reaches of space and takes us back into the history of scientific inquiry, from the ancient library of Alexandria to the NASA probes of our neighboring planets. Upon this vast canvas Sagan presents the "cosmic calendar," placing the 15-billion-year history of the universe into an accessible one-year framework, then filling it with a stunning chronology of events, both interstellar and earthbound.

From the lives of the stars to creation theories, functions of the human brain, and the ongoing search for extraterrestrial intelligence, Cosmos asks big questions. When appropriate, Sagan offers big answers, or asks still bigger--and yes, even spiritual--questions at the boundaries of science and religion. What's most remarkable about Cosmos is that it remains almost entirely fresh, with few updates needed to the science that Sagan so passionately celebrates. It is no exaggeration to say that Cosmos--for all the debate it may continue to provoke--is a vital document for humanity at a pivotal crossroads of our history. --Jeff Shannon (Amazon Editorial)
